HISTORY OF
Coughton Lodge

The lodge is approximately 500 years old and was part of The Coughton Court Estate (now owned by The National Trust). Coughton Court was deeply involved in The Gunpowder Plot: rumours and legend have it that Guy Fawkes lived close by for a while. Since a great deal of "plotting" must have taken place with the other conspirators, the rumours are particularly credible.
Originally the front part of the Lodge would have been The Coughton Court Estate Office and to the rear were adjoining stables and barns. There was also a sawpit, but this became disused and was eventually demolished.
Over the years the Lodge has been put to many uses. In the 1960's, for example, it served as the village infant school whilst a new school was being built. Fortunately whatever use the Lodge was put to, the original characteristics and beams were carefully preserved.
I bought the Lodge in 2004 to convert to a guesthouse, and my partner Caroline and myself set about totally renovating and refurbishing the building. In less than three months we had installed twelve en-suite bathrooms, one for each room, redecorated, furnished and opened our doors for business. We were exhausted and penniless, but the result was worth it.
The Lodge retained all it's original character but was furnished with modern complimentary furniture and fabrics to give it a light and airy feel for guests, and to provide a relaxing and intimate atmosphere for that special break.
We were delighted when we were awarded a four star rating on opening.
Now three years on we have gone from strength to strength, with guest numbers increasing every year, and many "regulars" who visit time and time again.
We look forward to welcoming you to the Lodge, and hope that you can have such a lovely time that you too will become one of our regulars.
ACTIVITIES AT
Coughton Lodge

There is plenty of scope for outdoor pursuits.
Caroline and I go rambling on many local pathways.
Also fishing (usually me), horse riding, cycling and boating on the River Avon.
There are also many golf courses, racecourses, shopping centres (usually Caroline) and at weekends several boot sales.
Don't be shy to give us a ring for any more info, however, between two and three I like to have a kip!

The musings of an ebay seller

Meanwhile, back at the Lodge...
From our point of view, yes - we are a real couple, hoping to make a sale.
As soon as our advert is published we are in the hot seat!
Then the suspense ...
Is the info interesting to you?
If so, I claim the credit.
Maybe the advert is boring.
If so, Caroline is to blame.
Is it a man or woman bidding?
Depends on the User ID: "PrettyBabyDoll" is a dead giveaway!
Will she go all the way?
Some will never bid more than half-price.
The best buyer for us?
The one who offers over £20, phones to pay promptly, has early choice of dates and enjoys a complimentary bottle of white wine on arrival.
On the subject of wine, why not have a bidding party and win in a haze?
Don't let the others pip you!

Auction Experiences
I have been selling this way for three years now, and most evenings, about 8ish, bring their surprises when the bids come in the last minute.
I expect you, as bidders, find the same.
There is one thing that puzzles me about under bidders; if I offer them a room at their last bid, only half of them will take it.
Perhaps you know why?
Well, I sell a lot of rooms and enjoy dialogue with the very interesting bidders, so it's a paying pastime.
I hope you enjoy it too.
It's easy to be friendly and accomodating with all enquiries, and we do enjoy a laugh - especially over the ID's (yes, you know who I mean "putchiputchipoo").
